Traditionally, the
function of spaces within traditional Tuvaluan homes is defined more by
its FLOOR MATS than by room
size or wall arrangment. As such, the same one-room building can serve various
functions, sometimes simultaneously. This approach maximises functionality
- rather than building separate living and sleeping spaces, one stucture
can house a number of people in various ways at different times just with
the rearrangement of various mats.
