Unfortunately the crises that
Tuvaluans face are not confined to their shores. Climate change, resource
shortages, over population and forced migration are issues that all nations,
even those in the wealthier parts of the world, are going to inevitably
face. Tuvalu is perhaps just the canary in the coalmine; an example of
where these crises might hit first and hit most severely. It is likely
that global crises will necessitate a reversal of globalisation in the
near future, with many city residents forced to relocate closer to their
sources of food and resources. The creation of communities with a dramatically
higher degree of local self reliance will be essential. As such, this
action plan for Tuvaluan relocation also serves as a template for the
relocalisation of populations within the potential host nation, Australia,
and in fact, for the rest of the world. |
